Prices Don't Give Up

This is our little family motto. When the girls are tempted to give up something before they really try, I tell them, "Oh, you must not be a Price, then, because Prices..." and they finish (sometimes with rolling eyes) "... don't give up."

My sister put a very simple phrase up on her wall in vinyl letters. It says "You can do hard things". Some things are not necessarily fun at first, but we can do them. Heavenly Father sent us to this earth to test us, and tests are sometimes hard. But He never gives us more than we can handle, and we CAN do hard things.

Well, she's the last of all her friends to learn, but Kortney now understands Aunt Tawnya's phrase a little bit more. Most of the time she's a little chicken, and I have to remind her that learning something new is always going to be hard at first, but it gets easier the more we work at it. She can now finally ride a bike. She learned on Emmrie's little bike because it doesn't have training wheels, and she can reach the ground when she's on the seat. So what finally did it? Well, it wasn't the hours of riding with tippy training wheels, or the back-breaking, muscle tightening, sweat-inducing determination of Mom running hunchbacked alongside her, holding her up by her seat a billion times up and down the sidewalk, never letting go because Kortney would turn back and freak out if I did, nor was it the constant motivational encouragement, "Come on, honey! I know you can do it!" No, all it took was watching her friend, Paige, take off one day on her own little two-wheeler, for Kortney to finally muster up the courage to really go for it. It took almost a whole day of coasting down the slope of the driveway, then adding peddles to that, then learning to steer while balancing and peddling all at the same time before she could ride the little bike all the way around the culdesac. But once she set her mind to it, she was determined to see it through. Once she finally got it down, I reminded her, "Kortney, you CAN do hard things!" When I ask how she finally did it, she likes to answer, "I DIDN'T give up!" She is so proud! And we're so proud of her! Way to go, cutie!

Here's a little clip of her when she was still a little wobbly (you can hear Rhett cheering her on at the end):

Lagoon

I haven't been to Lagoon since I was 9, when my aunt and I went on the coolest ride, the Colossus, about 30 times together. I went back on Friday with the kids, Neil's mom (I know- the only time we do fun things is when we're with Neil's parents), and his sister Rhonda and her family. Neil had to work, so he missed this trip. We got there right when it opened, and stayed till I think 7:00. I had had enough of it, but Kortney hadn't. She loved every minute. Especially the rides that "got her tummy". They were all troopers. Oh, and I nearly blacked out on the Colossus this time, so I only went on it once. Crazy, huh? It was weird. So, here are some fun photos of the day...

Bear Lake and the 4th of July

The kids and I got to spend a week at Bear Lake with Neil's mom, and my little nephew. It was lots of fun to hang out and swim every day. Neil's mom used to teach swimming lessons when her kids were little, and she told me that she would teach Kortney and Taylor this week, and that's exactly what she did. Kortney is a little scared to do the most daring things, and still likes to be where she knows she can touch the bottom, but Taylor seems to have no fear, and jumps in, dives for rings at the bottom, and kicks her little legs so well - she's a little fish! Thanks so much, Mom! They love it!

So I didn't get any photos of them in the pool, but we did go to the lake with everyone. Even my niece, Koralyn, was up visiting from Arizona, and it was so much fun to see her. My girls loved all the attention they got from her and her friend.

While I was there with Mom and the kids, we drove up the highway to the top of the hill to overlook the lake. It was a beautiful day, and a beautiful view.

Doesn't everyone have a photo like this?

On the 4th we were back in Soda Springs for the parade, because it's the best place for candy we've found so far in east Idaho (and believe me, we've tried other spots, because it's all about the candy!). The parade was very short this year, but they still made out like bandits.

Neil prepped all the kids with how to wave and show their "cute" faces, to get the most candy for their smiles, then sat back to wait for the parade. Oh, the excitement!

Then, we went to the cabin to hang out and eat some yummy dutch oven cooking!

That was a fun vacation. Now it's back to the hum-drum of everyday life...
Happy Independence Day!
